Background: DiversityWeb, developed by by the Association of American Colleges and Universities and the University of Maryland, offers interactive resources for higher education.

Hidden Histories

Background: Hidden Histories <http://www.mov.vic.gov.au/Hidden_Histories/> is an Australian collaborative on-line project sponsored by the Victorian Department of Education, Employment and Training and Museum Victoria. The purpose of the project is to "provide documentation of oral histories of the Koorie communities" and to increase the wider community's understanding of the culture of this Australian indigenous group.

Audience: Elementary - High School students; Educators
In addition, while the target group are Koorie students and other indigenous people from around Australia and the world, all students are encouraged to participate.

Types of Activities Offered: Hidden Histories offers

  • an online submission form to send in oral histories
  • an online submission form to communicate with curators at the Museum Victoria
  • a web-based messageboard discussion area where students can discuss a variety of topics and issues.

Sample Pages from Their Site: Students can find activities and support from information provided on their site, though many of the activities take place via email.

Support Available: The site offers support materials for teachers including an oral history checklist, a step-by-step guide, a participation agreement form and permission form.

Costs: Participation is free.
